A surrender, a catastrophic betrayal, and the return of something very small to something very large.
Scene 01 · Cave A
Norman joined Fit, Harvey and Bartho for the expedition into Cave A, the kobold lair beneath the Borderlands.
Among the crude bridges and timber platforms, one small kobold dropped his weapon. Kobe surrendered, attached himself to the party and began the strangest alliance any of them had expected to make.
Scene 02 · A catastrophic betrayal
Deeper in the cave, the party found a dragon hatchling being tormented by the remaining kobolds. Somewhere amid the confusion, Kobe decided to betray his rescuers.
His backstab failed catastrophically. The dagger skittered away, the party laughed, and Kobe somehow remained alive and in their company.
“The dagger missed. The joke landed.”
Scene 03 · The last restraints
The party cleared the last hostile kobolds and cut through the hatchling’s crude restraints.
Small, frightened and finally free, the creature had survived Cave A. The harder question was what waited outside for anyone carrying a dragon’s child.
Scene 04 · Something much larger
At the cavern mouth, the hatchling’s mother emerged from the storm. The four adventurers looked very small beneath her.
They returned her child and spoke without bloodshed. No reward was offered, but a living dragon now had reason to remember them. Kobe departed soon afterward to find his kin at another kobold village.
Cave A was empty. Two unlikely allies remained somewhere beyond it.
